1511

Uniqueness through repetition

The moulding process, refined by humans over millennia, enables the shaping of flexible materials in a precise, predetermined manner. Expertly crafted moulds allow makers to produce numerous identical, smooth objects.

However, what if this process were designed for unpredictability? 1511 presents an experimental approach to plaster moulding and clay casting, transforming it into an evolving system of structured chaos.

Instead of a methodical, seamless preparation, the plaster blocks are cast solid, layered, and intentionally fractured. This disruption introduces a dose of randomness, resulting in a collection of distinct, unconventional parts. The final form is assembled differently each time by reconfiguring and stacking these pieces — 1511 in total. Some fragments are omitted, leaving voids that are subsequently filled with porcelain, resulting in a unique composition.

This project presents an innovative design concept, thoughtfully challenging the traditional notions of moulding and uniform object production. By embracing randomness within a controlled process, 1511 redefines the role of the mould. The result is a dynamic interplay between precision and spontaneity — where each design is not just an object but a reflection of material, method, and maker.
